Agriganics is a new company on New Zealand’s rural servicing landscape, focused on increasing crop productivity through environmentally sustainable and affordable tools. Former farmer and fertiliser representative Bruce Hore of Otago is the owner/manager of Agriganics. The company’s has two products: a natural biostimulant, called BioPlus, which encourages the activity of beneficial microorganisms in the soil, thereby enhancing crop growth; and a soil mapping service, which records variations in soil so fertiliser can be applied more accurately.

Ruapuna arable farmer Stephen King is keen to discover the results of a biostimulant which could potentially enable faster and better growth for his crops. Agriganics manager Bruce Hore introduced New Zealand to the biostimulant BioPlus which makes fertilizers more efficient by promoting the beneficial activity of microorganisms in soil and increasing plant growth through quicker germination and greater root growth.

Expert encourages split-paddock trials

US-based Neal Kinsey says treating one area and leaving a control area within a single paddock gives farmers a measure of the stimulant’s effect on their system. “The farmers that split their fields, then come in and harvest – they will tell you there is more biomass and/or a difference in yield where they used a biostimulant. And farmers note more ‘spring’ underfoot in the treated soil.”
